Charles Ross is an old english apple. It ripens in september and can be used as a cooking apple when freshly picked or as an eater if it is stored for as while as its taste sweetens in storage. Most apple trees need another variety to help pollinate and produce fruits. Sulphate of potash applied a few times a year helps flowering and therefore fruiting.
